What do you want?
Chad Karger
Imagine sitting down with Jesus and him asking you one simple question:
"What do you want?"
For some of us, we might answer, "I'm good! You can move on to the next person." We may think that there are other people with greater needs and wants than us; they need Jesus more than... before we finish that thought we realize how arrogant it is! If I don't confess my needs and wants, I have not part with Him!
Others of us may blush as we name off a long list of wants. We quickly realize that He knew all of those before we named a single one! We begin to see them in light of who He is and not in light of ourselves.
We get lost in our desires because we don't bring them to Jesus. In Him we find our longings satisfied and refined. Instead of pitfalls, they turn into pivots that take us deeper into His care and love. More than proof of God's power, the resurrection is the path leading to the abundant life promised by Jesus himself. If we get stuck in the tomb, we'll never know all that Jesus means to us. He is the Good Shepherd who promises to provide for our needs, protect us from the the enemy, and give us life in abundance (John 10:9-11).
"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall now want," (Psalm 23:1).
The resurrected Jesus meets us in our desperation, much like he met Mary in the garden that morning, and says our name like He knows us better than we know ourselves! Being known by Jesus means that we can rest in how and when He provides for our deepest satisfaction. If and when He calls us to wait, though we may struggle in the in-between time, we'll know we can trust Him. We get lost in our wants if we don't confess that Jesus is our Good Shepherd!
It is much safer to see Jesus as a martyr on the cross than our risen Lord on Easter Sunday. Far from being a martyr, Jesus is a man on a mission sent by God! If we meet Him at the cross, we must follow him out of the tomb and into the New Life for which He has come!
One of the first things Jesus did with His disciples after his resurrection was to prepare breakfast for them on a beach. They were hungry and so He fed them. He fed their empty bellies and filled their hearts! When Jesus asks you, "What do you want?" be honest with Him. You can trust that in Him your soul will find its truest and deepest satisfaction, now and for eternity!
He is risen!
